Hot Topic: Statement published by the Department for Transport (DfT)

info@strife.biz

STRIFE has been set up as a campaign team, made up of local residents to fight the proposal. This web site concerns proposals for the development of an International Rail Freight Terminal, or Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SRFI). This would be built on the site of the former Radlett Aerodrome, between Park Street and London Colney, near St Albans, Hertfordshire.  STRIFE’s sole objective is to see that this scheme is not implemented, so safeguarding this site’s current Green Belt status.

How Big it would be:

More details of the scheme can be found here but, briefly, these comprise:

·        Development of over 300 acres of Green Belt land

·     3000 extra Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV)s every night and day

·       3.5 million sq ft of warehouse accommodation in 5 buildings

·   12 freight trains, each up to 750 metres long, every day, all year round

·        A rail link to the Midland Mainline

·        Car parking on site for 1665 cars

·        All HGVs going onto the A414 to join the M25, M1, M10, and the A1M

·        No new link on to the M25 Motorway, so all road traffic using the terminal having to use the existing local road network

·    Factories for the assembly of goods may be included

This site:

·     provides information on the development proposals

·   explains how the scheme may affect you as a local resident or business

·     explains what STRIFE is doing now and planning  for the future

·    suggests what you can do to further the campaign

· keeps you in touch with developments as the scheme progresses

This is how Your surrounding looks now

This is how it would be soon should You do nothing
